Abstract

The present study is focused on the development of environmentally friendly intumescent/char-forming coatings for wood and polymeric materials. For this purpose, a method of oxidation of raw materials, namely, polysaccharides, seeds, and lignin, by oxygen in the presence of catalyst is proposed. The main oxidation products of such matrixes are salts of polyoxy and polyphenoxy acids. Flammability tests on wood and polymers treated by these oxidized materials confirmed their high-performance fire protection.
