Abstract

Phenomenal advancements of nanotechnology applications in drug delivery have led to the creation of many novel nanodelivery systems and benefits to conventional drug delivery designs with efficient pharmacodynamics and reduced toxicity. Nanotechnology finds significant application in the development of numerous varieties of nanotherapeutics. There are various frameworks evolved for the characterization and evaluation of nanomaterials used in drug delivery from regulatory authorities. Many nanosystems using several compositions with favorable biological properties are investigated at length. Exploring the interaction of nanomaterials with the biological milieu is of the utmost importance to expand the application of nanomaterials in drug delivery. Interlinking the nanomaterials and appropriate technology will manifest fascinating drug-delivery devices. This chapter discusses the science and applications of various nanotechnologies in drug delivery. Various nanoscale formulations for drug delivery will be described with special emphasis on nanoparticle drug-delivery systems.
