Abstract

The chapter presents in detail the properties of the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology, and in particular discusses the way of operation for a representative FDM machine, the possibilities of designing and producing machine parts by used FDM, and also describes the material properties for representative polymers used within FDM processes. The chapter presents also the exemplary dependencies of physical quantities characteristic for the FDM process, e.g., dependence of the time of building models on the type of usage nozzle and the type of internal geometry used in the model. The authors also focused on identifying and describing key errors and problems that may occur during production of machine parts by use FDM technology. At the end chapter also shows where the FDM technology is most frequently used in industry based on percentage scale by domain.
