Abstract

This chapter provides problems and solutions related to light scattering. It provides mathematical derivation for each equation in detail. The topics include Rayleigh's equation for scattered light intensity, total scattered light intensity, turbidity (I), Rayleigh ratio, scattering from large particles, small particles, polymer solution, copolymer, particle scattering factor P(θ), Guinier plot, determination of the shape of particles from P(θ), determination of polarizability α, effect of the molecular weight distribution of polymer chains on P(θ) , Zimm plot, particle scattering factor of polymers with Schulz-Zimm molecular weight distribution, light scattering arising from optically anisotropic particles, fluctuation theory of light scattering, and osmotic pressure of polymer solution with molecular weight distribution.
