Abstract

Reading comprehension is considered one of the most critical skills needed for success in school and the workplace in a modern society. Many students with learning disabilities (LD) have significant difficulties with understanding what has been read and will require explicit reading comprehension instruction to develop this valuable skill. Fortunately, a large research-base of effective reading comprehension interventions for school-aged students with LD has been established over the past 30 plus years. In this chapter, seminal research in both narrative and expository text comprehension interventions are highlighted. The effects of interventions, specifically for students with LD, are noted.
