Abstract

While our knowledge in the field of mechanotransduction has advanced quite a bit, there is much more to be researched and understood. In this chapter, suggestions are made for possible topics to be researched. Our understanding of cell signaling is still poor and so is the interaction of the cell with the extracellular matrix. Substrate characteristics that control cell physiology and function should be investigated in more depth. Many aspects conducive to stem cell differentiation should be addressed. The focus should be on understanding mechanotransduction pathways and explore which steps can be controlled to diminish the possibility of disease and also those which are amenable to mechanotherapy.
