Abstract
Reagent-Free™ Ion Chromatography (RFIC-EG™) systems with electrolytic eluent generation are the state-of-the-art IC systems. RFIC-EG systems utilize three electrolytic technologies to automate ion chromatography: electrolytic eluent generation, electrolytic suppression, and continuously regenerated trap columns (CR-TC). RFIC systems support a wide variety of separations using only deionized water as the carrier and provide the operators with the flexibility to perform isocratic or gradient separations using hydroxide or methanesulfonic acid eluents, and isocratic separations using carbonate or carbonate/bicarbonate eluents. In this chapter, we discuss RFIC systems with eluent regeneration and their applications in ion chromatography. We also review several embodiments of ion reflux devices. Both eluent regeneration and ion reflux technologies can be used to generate or regenerate ion chromatography eluents for an extended period of time with minimal user intervention and improve the ease of use and reproducibility of ion chromatographic separations.
