Abstract

This chapter applies the HODMD and STKD methods to detect the spatio-temporal patterns driving the flow in the wake of wind turbines, considering two types of applications. In the first application, HODMD and STKD will identify the main flow instabilities that permit studying the bifurcation process that occurs in the wake of the wind turbine, considering two types of wind turbines, one with vertical axis and another with horizontal axis. Using SKTD, it is possible to simplify the description of the complex flow in the wake as a small group of well organized traveling waves. In the second application, the HODMD algorithm is slightly modified to predict, at different spatial locations, the temporal evolution of the wind flow found upstream a wind turbine with horizontal axis. This second application uses actual LiDAR experimental data. Finally, the readers will create their own model for data forecasting in wind turbines using a toy model.
