Abstract

Advanced healthcare applications are needed in current systems. With the exponential increases in population and technology, the number of accidents and medical conditions are also drastically increasing. The demand for many types of smart technology in the medical field has become a necessity. In keeping with the future technologies and trends, we are proposing a smart ambulance to be the next generation of technology used to reduce the mortality rate caused by delays in travel time to hospital for the patient. This application is associated with technologies like big data and the Internet of Things for efficient database management and patient information dissemination, so that their information is maintained in an organized manner at every location needed. Delays in travel time is one of the main issues causing severity for a patient. The delay in travel time may be due to traffic conditions like traffic jams, road issues, and the hospital location or location of patient. This delay may create adverse situations for critical patients and sometimes may even cause death. This chapter focuses on this issue and proposes a novel approach with a smart ambulance that is equipped with Internet of Things technology used to disseminate the information to a main center or hospital where doctors can treat the patient using nurses or medics in the ambulance equipped through wireless body sensor technology (WBSN). The information regarding treatment is stored in a database and can be further stored and processed as per requirements through big data technology using Hadoop for future requirements.
