Abstract

By tracing the pathways of cellular communication in the reverse direction, otherwise seemingly complicated physiologic traits terminate in the unicellular state that dominated the Earth for 3.5 billion years. The concept of self-referential self-organization derives from the amphiphilic nature of lipid molecules in water, spontaneously forming micelles. Another important aspect of this relationship between lipids and evolution is their molecular “memory.” Episodes of physiologic stress on biologic systems gave rise to endothermy. During the water-land transition, there were three hormone receptor gene duplications—the Parathyroid Hormone-related Protein Receptor (PTHrPR), the Glucocorticoid Receptor (GR), and the β-Adrenergic Receptor (βAR).
