Abstract

This chapter explores the various components that make up IIS 7.5 and what features the Web server offers. It is also explains how to plan for and deploy IIS 7.5 Web servers. How to administer IIS 7.5 Web sites is also highlighted. The chapter concludes with an introduction to administering File Transfer Protocol (FTP) services in IIS 75. IIS is one of the most widely deployed Web servers in the world. IIS is used by thousands of organizations to serve Web sites on intranets, extranets, and the Internet. IIS not only provides support for hosting basic Web sites but also for advanced Web applications using technologies such as ASP.NET and PHP. IIS additionally provides the following features: n Support for running multiple Web sites on a single host, a common administrative interface using Server Manager and PowerShell. Administering the IIS 7.5 FTP publishing service is discussed; IIS includes FTP services to allow users to remotely upload files to Websites they manage. FTP is commonly seen in Web-hosting environments where multiple Web sites are shared on a single Web server. Each Web site owner can then be given access to upload and manage files for his respective Web site by using FTP Publishing Services.
