Abstract

Energy is the primary requirement of humankind starting from food for the growth and sustenance of life, other activities such as agriculture, education, transportation, industrial, comforts, etc. The index of any country's development status is its per capita energy consumption. At present, there is big difference in energy consumption among the developed and developing/under developed countries with more so among the rural and urban areas in the latter type of countries. Most of the global energy needs are met from the fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, or nuclear with small fraction from renewable resources such as hydel, wind, solar, or biomass. Since rural areas are ideal for harnessing such energies. This chapter is therefore designed to harness and storage of energy by making use of nanotechnology with a focus on solar energy.
