Abstract

Carbon capture plays an important role in facing climate change. Development and testing of new or improved sorbents are required to improve the efficiency of the carbon capture process. Encapsulated liquid sorbents may be a promising alternative to overcome some drawbacks associated with the use of traditional solvents in the CO2 capture process. This system isolates the solvent inside the polymeric shell thus avoiding facilities corrosion and product degradation. There have been considerable industrial and academic interests in investigating the potential application of encapsulated liquid sorbent for CO2 capture processes, recently. This chapter describes the main published works about encapsulated liquid sorbents for CO2 uptake. A brief review of the main CO2 solvents and methods used in preparing encapsulated liquid is also presented.
