Abstract

This chapter discusses about the business continuity and the disaster recovery (BC/DR) processes. It defines the BC/DR teams and the key personnel required for it. The communication plans, the event logs and the change control are also discussed. The phases of the BC/DR plan include: activation, disaster recovery, business resumption or business continuity, and transition to normal operations. The activation phase of the BC/DR plan addresses the time during and immediately after a business disruption. Activation includes: initial response and notification, problem assessment and escalation, disaster declaration, and plan implementation. There are numerous people in positions that are critical to the activation, implementation, and maintenance of the BC/DR plan. A good team description identifies some attributes like: positions or job functions included on the team, team leader and contact information, team mission statement or set of objectives, delineation of responsibilities in each phase of BC/DR, and escalation path and criteria.
