Abstract

RPC, DCOM, and Winsock are all part of a developer system for network aware Windows applications. These work alongside the Active Directory Services Interface to provide a method for both Administrators and developers to manage and extend the Active Directory. Active Directory is full of subtle nuances that are usually only unearthed over time by the adept. As Active Directory infrastructure matures and user's requirements grow, a number of more complex technical issues will arise, such as: How to interface with Active Directory? How to get other directory services to interface with it? Can Active Directory tasks be automated? How does an LDAP query access Active Directory? The Active Directory will not stand alone in the network as a directory service. As time goes by, an enterprise may add other applications and systems that integrate with the Active Directory. There may be some directories that cannot be integrated or synchronized directly with the Active Directory.
