Abstract

Being native to China, Eucommia ulmoides (EU) oliver is well known for its medicinal properties and widely grown in subtropical to temperate areas for its bark, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine. Recent studies have recognized seed oil of this woody species as the main by-product. EU seed has been investigated for numerous pharmacological functions for instance, antihypertensive, antioxidative, and antiinflammatory effects, immunity enhancement, and blood lipids regulation. However, studies on EU seed and its oil content are very scarce. Therefore, this chapter is stepping forth to document the most available studies in relation to Eucommia ulmoides seed oil, its fatty acid composition, bioactive components, and health-promoting properties.
