Abstract
Owing to grid refinement/coarsening, it can result in unequal distribution of workload among the processors of a parallel system. In this paper, a novel method for balancing the load, if grids are dynamically changed, is developed in the H-type adaptive grid system. The approach employs a local exchange of cells among processors to redistribute the load equally. There are two important parts of the load-balancing algorithm. One is to divide the processors into two similar groups. The other is to employ a processor to determine which cells within its subdomain are to be exchanged. The spectral recursive-bisection method is applied to divide the processors in this paper. Besides, the strategy of load balancing based on the divide-and-conquer approach can lead to an efficient parallel algorithm to solve the problems.
