Abstract

This chapter discusses the fundamentals of biomolecular cryptology. It presents linguistic aspects of computational molecular biology (CMB) in a systematic manner. It focuses on the conceptual and methodological principles of the fields that contribute to what could be called biomolecular cryptology. The chapter describes the following introductory topics: (1) language metaphor, (2) functionally equivalent sequences, (3) classification codes, (4) conceptual principles of statistical inference, and (5) the concept of pragmatic inference. Some statistical tools of linguistics are also illustrated in the chapter.
