Abstract

Sandy-beach invertebrate communities are usually dominated by annelids, mollusks, and crustaceans in the intertidal zone and by insects and crustaceans in the supralittoral, around and above the drift line. The orders, families, and genera typical of these groups on sandy shores are introduced, with brief notes on their biology. Numerous other phyla are also covered, including Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Nemertea, Nematoda, Echiurida, Sipunculida, Brachiopoda, Echinodermata, and Hemichordata.
