Abstract

This chapter addresses the observer-based control design problem in dynamical systems. Initially, we review the roots and needs of the problem. Then, we develop and establish complete control design results based on several distinct approaches. We investigate issues regarding robust stability and robust performance of control design for different system configurations. The topics covered in this chapter include: •Historical developments•Observer-based fault-tolerant control•Switched discrete-time systems•Networked control systems (NCS) with nonstationary random delays•Disturbance observer-based control for nonlinear systems•Robust control of NCS with a partially known transition matrix
