Abstract
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the noncatalytic heterogeneous reactions and discusses the spatially nonuniform homogeneous reactions, gas–liquid reactions with gaseous product, gas–liquid reactions with liquid product, liquid–liquid reactions with liquid product, liquid–liquid reactions with solid product, gas–solid reactions with gaseous product, solid-to-gas transformations, gas–solid reactions with solid product, liquid–solid reactions with liquid product, liquid–solid reactions with solid product, solid-to-solid transformations, solid–solid reactions with solid product, and disguised high-pressure and high-temperature reactions. Heterogeneously catalyzed polymerization reactions using a solid catalyst and a gaseous monomer feed producing a solid polymer fall into the class of gas–solid reactions with solid product. Examples are the gas-phase polymerization of ethylene and of propylene. The continuation of this type of reaction is dependent on the ability of the catalyst to resist choking by the polymer.
