Abstract

Myofascial pain is common in the general population. Fascia mobility, especially along shear planes separating muscles, is critical for the musculoskeletal function. The fascia is also highly innervated with small diameter fibers that may play an important part in proprioception. Evidenced by relationships established between tissue laxity, fascia mobility, proprioception, tissue inflammation, and myofascial pain, the fascia is gaining interest in pathophysiological studies of musculoskeletal and visceral pain in EDS and HSD.
