Abstract

Recent technological advances require an expanded definition of laboratory experiments to include theory-driven fundamental research that occurs in a variety of physical settings and uses a variety of participant interface and data collection techniques. In this chapter, we focus on strategic, theoretical, and methodological issues related to the recruitment and management of laboratory experiment participants in psychology, sociology, and political science. We provide interested researchers with information and resources to begin or enhance research with human participants in their own laboratories.
