Abstract
A dichotomous key to distinguish the nine known levels of morphophysiological dormancy (MPD) has been constructed, and a list of species with each level of MPD has been compiled. The dormancy-breaking and germination requirements of seeds with each level of MPD is discussed in as much detail as possible; in some cases more research clearly is needed. Also, a special case of deep simple epicotyl MPD and of simple double MPD is described. Particular attention is given to phenology of embryo growth, germination phenology and conditions (especially temperature) in the habitat between the time of seed maturation and germination.
