Abstract

This chapter covers a variety of common security technologies tied together with the theme of frustration strategies. The importance of minimization as a strategy is highlighted, and both host-based and network-based protections are introduced. Intrusion detection and service wrappers are introduced on the host, as well as the importance of disabling services and application management. Minimizing services is motivated by an example of distributed denial of service attacks that are possible due to improper service minimization in devices connected to the Internet.
