Abstract
The Accelerated Master of Tourism Administration degree (AMTA) program at The George Washington University (GW) emerged in 1997 out of a concern among Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) faculty members that there were few programs for tourism professionals equivalent to the executive MBA programs flourishing at universities throughout the country. To help create equity in higher education for tourism professionals, GW's DTHM began researching methods for delivering a master's degree program through distance education.
