Abstract
4-Pyranone is a six-membered unsaturated oxygen heterocycles with ring oxygen and one carbonyl group linked together with two ethene moieties forming a cyclic system. It is isomeric with 2-pyranone. 4H-Pyran-4-one is commonly known as 4-pyrone or γ-pyrone. This chapter includes the discussion of natural products embeded with skeleton of 4-pyranones. In addition various synthetic methods has also been dicussed to afford 4-pyranones. Further reactions of this molecules is also discussed.
