Abstract

Silver is a key active metal of various industrial and lab-scale catalysts that are used for transformation of organic compounds in reactions of selective and total oxidation, (de)hydrogenation, photo- and electrocatalytic processes, etc. In this chapter we elucidate the key issues of surface chemistry of Ag-based heterogeneous catalysts with a special focus on oxidation catalysis. We consider the ways to tune the activity of Ag-based catalysts through the prism of size and morphology of Ag nanoparticles, their localization and strength of interaction with the support surface, the nature and reactivity of oxygen species formed over such surfaces as well as synergistic action of Ag particles with other components of the catalyst, including support, promoters, modifiers, etc.
