Abstract
This chapter discusses the influence of classical and rapid thermal processing pre-treatment on the efficiency of m-c silicon solar cells. The starting materials contain different concentration of oxygen and carbon. It is observed that a high concentration of oxygen and carbon associated to a rapid thermal processing (RTP) at a high temperature alter mc silicon solar cells performances. These m-c silicon solar cells were obtained with wafers cut out of cast ingots called POLIX of HOTOWATT. The efficiency decreased from 14.61% to 09.83% on wafers containing a high concentration of oxygen (20 ppma). On the other hand, the wafers treated by classical thermal processing (CTP) present a slight decrease in the efficiency compared to those treated by rapid thermal processing. A comparison with monocristalline silicon solar cell efficiency is also made.
