Abstract

In this chapter the preparation of mechanically flexible composites by blending poly(BA-a) with LLDPE in the presence of LLDPE-g-Maleic anhydride as compatibilizer and fumed silica as filler is reported. Blending poly(BA-a) with LLDPE results in the enhancement of the thermal stability of the composites. Tensile and flexural testing of the composites revealed that 5wt% is the optimum amount of fumed silica that can be used in composite preparation. This melt blending method, which is employed here to prepare the composites, is very simple. Moreover, LLDPE and fumed silica are commercially available cheap materials. As the prepared composites possess good thermal stability along with superior mechanical flexibility, these composites have the potential to be used in the preparation of complex structures where structural flexibility is required.
