Abstract

Virus diseases in crops are a major problem all over the world. The incidence of virus disease and their damage caused to economically important crops in tropical and subtropical countries have been reported repeatedly. It is difficult for farmers to identify viral disease on the basis of symptoms like curling, yellowing, mosaic, and mottling because these symptoms are also related to abiotic stresses, use of pesticides, and variation in nutritional values. Moreover, symptoms appear at later stages in many of the plant virus disease. Once infected, there is no control for virus diseases. Proper monitoring and management is the complete solution to protect crops from devastating diseases. In this chapter, we discuss the basic information for farmers to protect against plant-virus diseases and strategies for managing them.
