Abstract

Summary The chapter presents theoretical as well as empirical evidence relating the concept of divergent thinking or creativity to humor. Humor is viewed as a two dimensional concept involving both appreciation and creativity. Instruments constructed in order to measure these dimensions are briefly described. While most research on humor focused on humor appreciation, a project developed at Tel Aviv University aimed at exploring and enhancing humor creativity among adolescents as well as a project of teaching teachers to use humor are described. Based on experimental studies presented, humor appears to be an efficient aid in developing creative thinking in adolescents.
