Abstract

The calculation procedures for the steady-state performance of single-phase closed-loop and open-loop natural circulation systems (NCSs) are presented in this chapter. Dimensional and dimensionless flow equations for the steady-state case are derived for closed and open loops. The dimensionless flow equation is compared against the steady-state flow rate data reported by various authors giving good agreement. Parametric dependence of the steady-state flow has been presented for both open- and closed-loop systems. Subsequently, numerical prediction of the transient behavior of NCSs is presented. The numerical methodology has been demonstrated with simple examples for both closed and open loops. A few industrial problems have also been solved.
