Abstract

In this chapter, it is aimed to comprehensively present the empirical studies in the literature about environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis. For this purpose, these studies are divided into two groups, as the single-country and the multiple-country studies. In addition, all studies examined are evaluated according to their results. The literature review shows that the EKC hypothesis has a long history and is still up to date. The dynamic structure of the basic components of the hypothesis and the developments in the science of economics are reason for the future studies in this field.
