Abstract

Of late, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play a vital role in developing smart applications. With the help of smart metering and Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI), Smart Grids (SG) are becoming a reality on a global scale. Currently, the growth of research efforts of SGs requires emerging technologies to enable substantial supply points in the grid and protect the low-voltage portion with a low-cost component. Besides, Power Line Communications (PLC) has been an active research domain for many years, extensively used in electric grids for quick and inexpensive pervasive deployments. PLC has been considered one of the earliest initiatives of automating electric grids; it implies regulating carrier signals above existing powerline cable infrastructure to enable two-way communication.
