Abstract
Sorghum and millets are important food and feed crops in countries with developing economies and in developed countries, respectively. The crop varieties are harvested manually and mechanically by combine. The main elements of a postharvesting system for sorghum and millets include drying, threshing, cleaning, dehulling, milling, packaging, transportation, and storage. Proper control of each of these elements ensures good quality products and minimal postharvest losses. Pests can wreak havoc to harvested sorghum and millets, reducing their grain quality and increasing postharvest losses. Major storage pests for sorghum and millets include the maize weevil (Sitophilus zeamais) and Angoumois grain moth (Sitotroga cerealella), and they can be controlled using insecticides, physical barriers, hermetic storage systems, and controlled atmosphere storage.
