Abstract

This chapter discusses novel DNA and RNA delivery systems based on emerging nanotechnology such as nanoparticles and nanosized biological molecules. It firstly studies the mechanism for DNA/RNA delivery and reviews recent breakthroughs of such nanodelivery systems for gene therapy, tissue/organ function improvement, disease treatment, as well as molecular imaging utilities. This chapter then illustrates applications and future prospects which direct nano-based DNA/RNA delivery vehicles smaller, safer, and more versatile.
