Abstract

Graphene quantum dots have emerged as a new platform for various biological activities because of their outstanding chemical inertness and biocompatibility. The quantum dot structure has revealed excellent chemical, physical, and biological properties. In this chapter, graphene quantum dots are explored for biomedical applications such as sensing and detecting microbial pathogens and further acting as a disinfectant. The quantum dot application as an antimicrobial agent without generating drug resistance in the pathogens opens a new platform for nanoantimicrobial therapy. Recently, Quantum dots applications in bioimaging and drug delivery are emerging area of biomedical research that will provide significant change in medical system and effective drug release of target site with high efficacy.
