Abstract

Sixteen air temperature monitoring locations are located in Postojna Cave and two at Predjama Cave taking measurements at hourly intervals, with some exceptions at half hour intervals. Additionally, an outside air temperature and air pressure monitoring location is situated in the forest above Postojna Cave. At most of the air temperature monitoring sites Eijkelkamp baro-divers are used. Previously, Tinytag air temperature instruments were used at some locations. In Predjama Cave, carbon dioxide concentrations using Vaisala GM70 instruments are measured occasionally, while in Postojna Cave, between four carbon dioxide sites, Biospeleološka Postaja provides the most complete (2015–20) data set. Temporal measurements of cave air current velocity have been measured using a Kestrel 4500 device. Basic statistics (mean, maximum, minimum, range, Pearson correlation coefficients) are calculated for meteorological parameters. Attention is paid to relations between the impact of human presence on the cave microclimate and the impact of outside climate conditions on the cave microclimate.
