Abstract
Over the last few decades, numerous biopolymers have gained increasing attention in various fields due to their versatile properties such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, renewability, nontoxicity, and so on. This chapter covers the general outlook on biopolymers and their basic classification. In addition, the chapter provides comprehensive knowledge of the various characteristics of biopolymers, which forms the basic criteria for their selection in different industrial applications. Furthermore, the chapter presents the future perspective of biopolymers and recommends possible remedies that could upgrade the scope of biopolymers in the foreseeable future.
