Abstract

The comparisons of tire–pavement interaction noise between a rough road and a smooth road were analyzed in this chapter. The spectra of the total noise between the two road sections revealed no general trends. Therefore the total noise was separated into two noise components: tread pattern noise and nontread pattern noise (mainly road texture noise). It was found that smoother pavement tends to cause higher tread pattern noise but lower nontread pattern noise. Good correlation can be found between pavement texture velocity spectrum and tire nontread pattern noise spectrum.
