Abstract

Carbon-based advanced techniques play a key role to enhance the performance or substituting the existing technologies. One of the growing environmental concerns is water pollution due to dumping toxic metal ion water. Heavy metal ions in water poses threat to biological life, due to their toxic effect on aquatic and human life. In context to wastewater, several approaches come in light to achieve the heights to cripple the environmental problems. In this chapter, the unique characteristics of carbon-based nanomaterials that have gained attention from the last two decades for the treatment of wastewater. Carbon-based nanomaterials stand their highest rank due to low-cost preparation and are more easily available than other nanomaterials. This chapter reviewed the application of various carbon-based materials for the application of wastewater treatment. The carbon-based materials and their role in adsorption, ion-exchange, membrane separation mechanism, research barriers, and the removal efficiency of the material are highlighted.
