Abstract

A variety of methods of electrochemical water treatment contributes to a great variety of designs of electrochemical reactors. Sometimes the only similarity in the manifold of reactors is the presence of only anodes and cathodes, which are an integral part of any electrochemical process. As we already know from the contents of this book, the most studied processes for water purification are electrocoagulation, electroflotation, electrochemical oxidation and reduction, and electrodialysis. Therefore, there are a significant number of typical reactors and ready solutions for water treatment with these processes in the market. The main typical reactors used for these methods are discussed in this chapter. Moreover, examples of the use of electrochemical water treatment methods in practice and activities of some companies working in the field of water treatment are also considered in this chapter. At the same time, design solutions for reactors of developing electrochemical processes are still in the stage of optimization and development. Often there is a difficulty in selecting the right size of equipment for the treatment of water with given flow rates and concentration of pollutants. Therefore, this chapter presents the computation algorithm of reactors used in electrocoagulation and electroflotation processes, as the most common ones.
