Abstract

Shale gas resources are becoming an important energy source for meeting rising energy demands in the next several decades. Development of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing is crucial for economic production of shale gas reservoirs, but it must be performed with caution and as a multi-disciplinary approach (King, 2010). Commercial successes in the Barnett shale, which is currently the largest producing natural gas field, and other shale plays in the United States have made shale gas exploration possible and development has begun to spread all around the world.
