Abstract
Multiphase and multicomponent mixtures containing one or more types of particles, liquids, and/or gases are often encountered in particle processing. The word ‘classification’ refers to the separation of particles from solid–solid, solid–liquid, solid–gas, or other complex mixtures. In general, the separation of particles can be achieved by exploiting the difference in size, shape, physical, or chemical properties of solid particles. In this chapter, traditional methods and recent advances in the separation of solid particles from liquids and gases are discussed.
