Abstract

In this chapter, we treat the testing step within the framework of the hydrologic frequency analysis (HFA), which is briefly described in Chapter 2. In this chapter, the corresponding techniques and methods will be presented with more details and some examples. Nonstationarity, heterogeneity, and serial dependence need to be tested before the modeling step in a multivariate HFA. The testing step is important to ensure the respect of the basic assumptions. Hence, the selected models will be appropriate. These statistical tests are general and can be adapted and applied to a variety of hydrometeorelogical variables such as floods, storms, heat waves, and draughts, as well as to other fields.
