Abstract

Commercialising renewable diesel (RD) is a subject of great interest, with various opportunities associated with its use. However, challenges limiting the commercialisation of RD include the type of process catalyst, feedstock, government policy and techno-economic development. RD is an alternative energy source that can replace fossil fuels. Its prospect is high with the ongoing increase in demand for biobased energy as the energy source for a green environment. Attention must be given to the upscaling of novel laboratory methods developed for the production of RD to enhance the commercial availability of RD. At the same time, government policies are enabled for adequate implementation towards the success of commercialising RD.
