Pretransfusion testing includes the process of obtaining blood products for patients requiring transfusion as well as the serology testing performed in the blood bank. These required steps include proper patient identification and appropriate collection of blood sample, blood bank evaluation/requirement of specimen, and retention of sample; serology testing include ABO and D type as well as an antibody screen for non-ABO antibodies, crossmatching, and proper labeling of blood products. In addition, direct antiglobulin test, elution, absorption, use of various enzymes, and neutralizing substance for antibody workup are also performed in blood bank.
