Abstract
The chapter deals with the behavior of materials collided in high-velocity oblique collisions by using a high-speed video camera and numerical analysis. First, the observation setup for collision phenomena of metal plates using a high-speed video camera is demonstrated. Next, the numerical analysis methods used to simulate the behavior of the materials at the time of collision are explained. In the last section, the microstructure of steel in a high-speed oblique collision, which exhibits the same phenomena as in explosive welding, is discussed in comparison with the results of the numerical analysis, especially the smooth particle hydrodynamics method.
