Abstract

The significance of artificial light has long been acknowledged. Numerous corporations and educational institutions are seeking new artificial lighting applications in order to create more energy-efficient and ecofriendly lighting. This chapter gives an overview of the progress and evolution of lighting technology from ancient incandescent bulbs to organic light-emitting lamps. Flexible electronics can also be accomplished through these new, large-area electronic platforms with traditional materials for innovative large-area system design. This new technology has opened a gateway for a sustainable green technology in the field of lighting, which is essential today. The current state-of-the-art, ongoing challenges, and future perspectives of this research frontier are discussed in this chapter.
